CHARLES RIVER CFO
John Hession is a retired corporate lawyer with extensive experience in venture capital and angel investment and the organization, financing, growth and acquisition of early-stage and emerging companies. For almost four decades, John provided business and strategic advice, including counsel for legal, business and intellectual property matters, for these emerging companies.
As a business attorney, most recently with the Morse firm in Waltham (until January 2022), John represented clients from across the spectrum of emerging company sectors, including biotechnology, healthcare services, medical devices, enterprise software and other information technology, hardware devices and digital media. John was also a Co-Founder and the initial Managing Partner of the Boston office of Cooley LLP, an acclaimed national and international firm representing emerging companies and venture capital funds. For over seven years at Cooley, John helped grow the Boston office from seven to 70 professionals.
Shahid Azim is a serial health tech entrepreneur and has started four venture-backed technology and healthcare companies as CEO. He is co-founder and managing partner for C10 Labs, an AI Venture Studio based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Shahid recognizes that AI-first company CEOs cannot be just tech leaders or business leaders but must become dimensional leaders to fully tap their potential.

Robin came to SmartLabs with over 30 years of experience in auditing and developing finance functions at various companies, focusing the last 13 years on biotechnology and healthcare. Beginning her career at Big Four firms PwC and Deloitte, then global companies Bank of America and Fidelity Investments, she applies her internal controls and financial operations expertise to develop and strengthen financial functions and ensure scalability for growth while aligning with overall corporate strategies.
Dan McNulty is a retired senior business leader. His exceptional career truly began at SmithKline Beckman, where he fulfilled assignments over 16 years, including as President of its Krautkramer Branson International Division in Cologne, Germany. Dan is a successful medtech entrepreneur, including the President and CEO of Acoustic Imaging, President of Diasonics Vingmed Ultrasound, and President and CEO of InfraRedx. He has served on many business boards and founded McNulty Consulting Group. He has a long-term relationship with Charles River CFO, including as the Chair of the Advisory Board.
